The #1 Mistake Business Owners Make In Email Marketing
It doesn’t matter if you have the coolest ecom store that rivals Apple or own the highest-quality list of emails ever seen since Mailchimp's data breach. You’ll still be losing out on sales if you aren't doing this one thing (It’s the difference between emails making 2% of your stores revenue vs 40% of it)
That mistake is simple - writing boring copy.
The copywriting in your emails should follow specific advertising principles that are proven to work. Just winging it won’t work. Your copy should stop the reader in his tracks, then guide him by the hand through the sales letter (or email in this case) all the way to the bottom where you get him to click the “Shop Now” button and finally purchase.
That doesn’t imply that you should start writing jokes. Those rarely work in advertising copy. But it does mean you should take some more time to learn about copy. For example - small changes to my headlines that I’ve read in advertising books from decades ago have turned into thousands of dollars in sales.
A/B test and learn what not only gets your customers attention, but convinces them to purchase from your store.
Take this as an opportunity to also test longer forms of copy. If you’re like most stores, you’re using more imagery than writing in your emails. But you can do both. I’ve found 500-1,000 words in emails converts best.
See your emails as the lander before the lander. You have several seconds to convince them to stop everything they’re doing to buy your product.
Remember this - Copywriting in emails matters. Take some time to learn it. One small copywriting tip from an old advertising book can result in thousands of dollars in extra sales.
