You want your email or ad to resonate with what’s on their mind right now, then tie that into your product. Doing this is much more likely to grab the consumers attention than otherwise.

For example - let’s say a hurricane has been in the news lately. And my product is a portable backup charger. The first half of the ad can be about the hurricane thats causing power outages across America. The second part of the ad would be about how my portable backup charger could save your life if you find yourself in one of these power outages.

If you split test plenty of ads, you might notice that the best ones are more relevant than the non-performing ones. Give it a try.
